Fire Safety for Children
Welcome to the Oak Ridge Fire Department Kid's page.
Escape Rules in a Fire:
1. Always sleep with your bedroom door closed.
2. In case of a fire keep calm, don't panic and if possible let your family know your ok.
3. Don't hide under the bed, in a closet or in another room like the bathroom.
4. Test the door before opening it with the back of your hand to see if it's hot.
5. If the door is hot...DO NOT OPEN IT!! Use another way out!
6. If there is smoke in your room, get low and close to the floor.
7. Design and practice your escape plan including a designated safety area where everyone should wait that's away from the fire.
If your are outside, NEVER, EVER go back inside of a burning building!
When you see a firefighter dressed like this, don't hide from them. They are there to help you and keep you safe in case of an emergency.
